Customer LoginsNew York Auto Show 2018: Volvo to display V60, adds Inscription package for XC40
Volvo has announced that its 2018 New York International Auto Show stage will include a North American debut for the V60 wagon, introduced at the Geneva Motor Show (Switzerland) earlier this year, as well as a premium version of the XC40 called the Inscription in line with the top versions of other Volvo models. The XC40 Inscription, Volvo says, will bring a "luxurious" element to the small sport utility vehicle range and offer unique features and an expanded list of standard equipment. The company has also confirmed that the V60 wagon will be offered for the 2019 model year in the United States, with a 250-hp T5 front-wheel-drive Drive-e powertrain or a 316-hp T6 all-wheel-drive Drive E powertrain; both receive an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Significance: Although US buyers are largely immune to the charms of wagons, with the body type selling in small numbers for most, Volvo has a tradition of wagons in the US, including the V90 and V90 Cross Country launched in 2017. IHS Markit forecasts US sales of the V60/V60 Cross Country (not yet introduced) in the 4,500-unit range. The V90 was introduced in the US on an order-only basis; it remains to be seen if the same strategy will be deployed for the V60. Although the XC40 is a smaller, less expensive companion to the XC60, in the US market IHS Markit forecasts that the XC40 will post annual sales in the range of 17,000 units, compared with 24,000 units for the XC60. The XC60 is sized in a more popular sector of the US market. Overall, Volvo came roaring back with the XC90 and has continued to deliver strong, elegant products.
